  •   ROCKLAND COAST GUARD CITY CUP GOLF TOURNAMENT AND ANNIVERSARY JULY 9, 2010

There were 76 people who registered resulting in 19 teams of four accompanied by early fog and then a beautiful sunny day. Approximately 50% were active Coast Guard personnel from the Northern New England Sector and included active Coast Guard representatives from Rockland, South Portland, and Jonesport, Maine and the other 50% were civilians. The civilian teams included a team from Rockland Fire Department and another team from Pen Bay Healthcare, additional teams were from various parts of Maine including Vinalhaven and Sandford. The event began with the National Anthem being sung by ET2 Elizabeth Collins. Keenan Flannigan, golf pro for Rockland Golf Course coordinated the strategy for the team scramble which ran from 9:00 am – 1:30 pm.

Following the tournament participants gathered to celebrate the third anniversary for Rockland being a Coast Guard City. Rockland first became a Coast Guard City in 2008 and is required to re-apply for this status every five years. Awards and refreshments were part of the anniversary celebration with the anniversary cake being donated by the Brown Bag Restaurant and Bakery.
