Rockland Coast Guard City Committee Official Mission Statement
“The purpose of the City of Rockland Coast Guard City Committee is to support and foster a positive and enduring relationship with the U.S. Coast Guard personnel, and their families, stationed in our community. The residents of Rockland and the surrounding area recognize the importance of what our U.S. Coast Guard Men and Women contribute to our community.
Likewise, it is important for us to provide a range of partnerships to include the Coast Guard personnel and their families as part of our community during their tour of duty in Rockland. Becoming aware of and remaining sensitive to the needs of the U.S. Coast Guard personnel and their families is our major goal.”
“We Are Proud To Serve Those Who Serve Our Country!”
The Rockland Coast Guard City Committee Serves And Supports Our Local Coast Guard Personnel And Their Families by:
- Welcoming new Coast Guard personnel and their families when they are relocated to the Rockland area
- Helping personnel and their families identify resources in
the community that will meet needs such as housing,
medical assistance, employment, etc.
- Sponsoring annual and special recognition events for Coast Guard personnel such as the Coast Guard Birthday Celebration, and Coast Guard Appreciation Banquet
- Organizing “Cookies For Coasties” appreciation teams who take home baked goods to the Coast Guard Personnel at Tilson Avenue Coast Guard Station, The Abbie Burgess, Thunder Bay, and Tackle
- Assisting in encouraging opportunities for tours of Coast Guard Boats and Ships in the Rockland Harbor with tours of Coast Guard ships, such as the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter EAGLE, "America's Tall Ship"
- Organizing annual Anniversary Coast Guard City Celebrations
Life in the military is not easy since every few years families have to uproot and move. Rear Adm. Dale G. Gabel, commander of First Coast Guard District said, "I'm impressed with the city of Rockland assisting and making the Coast Guard feel at home.” He added that he was grateful to the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce which also serves as a great resource tohelp members of the Coast Guard relocate, easing the burden of
their move.
